Allow life to be life

Existential therapy resonates with me as a practice because it allows life to be life, and a human to be human.

At certain moments in life, this becomes a very difficult task.

Its main mechanism is a special kind of care into which each of us is, in one way or another, already immersed in our lives.

'Scientific' therapies, striving for an analogy with medicine, work with disorders and their symptoms, which interfere with integrating into the normal social order; their mechanism is calculating effective steps, forming the skill of being a bit more 'correct,' which makes it more possible to live as oneself among people.

This is a needed opportunity, sometimes a necessity, as for some, it's the only way to help.

But I resonate with, and choose to engage with, life and humanity in general.

This is a peculiar mastery, a practice of sincerity (in Orthodoxy, a better word is humility), striving to see the human situation in general, and one's unique position in it ever more clearly, and to endure what you see, understanding it as your own life from which you cannot escape.

Endure is an interesting word, it precisely means to see your situation, your life, to hear and feel your emotional response to it, but not to close your eyes, even if it hurts or you strongly dislike seeing the truth that becomes ever clearer.

Or, in modern language,

not to form (or continue to support) a symptom, sometimes quite bizarre, in order to somehow deceive yourself and others, as if there is not what is, but what you wish there would be.
